The Top Menu

The top menu has two functions:

  • provide navigation among TYPES of content, i.e. blogs, forums, etc.
  • provide (in the smaller links at the very top) quick access to lesser-used but important functions.

About content types:  all of the content in a CMS type of website is organized principally by the type of the content on the one hand and the subject matter to which it relates on the other hand.  One TYPE of content may relate to multiple TOPICS and a single subject may have had many types of content created about it.

The site has a system of taxonomy for classifying the content.

The end result is that you can find and view content from several approaches:

  • Select a TYPE, e.g. blog, and read all blog entries from all contributors, without any restriction as to TOPIC.
  • Select a TOPIC from the taxonomy (left-hand column) and see all types of content that have been linked to that topic.
  • By reference to the right-hand column of most recent items, most popular items, etc., see what others are looking at.  This is without regard to either content type or topic.
  • Or, SEARCH using a couple of terms and find content related to your needs regardless of either the type of content or the topic under which someone classified it.
