Olive Standish Jones Olive was born in Shreveport, LA and lived in the area most of her life. She was a member of Central Christian Church, the Victory Chapter of the Eastern Star #130, and was founder of the American Organ Guild. Claude Lanier Jones 1872–1954

Claude Lanier Jones was born on August 17, 1872, in Caddo Gap, Arkansas, his father, Alfred, was 44 and his mother, Jane, was 35. He married Annie Olive Stevens – Jones on January 6, 1897, in Magnolia, Mississippi. They had two children during their marriage. He died in March 1954 in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 81. My first visit to the Valley

I hope that everyone will reminisce a bit. It comes more naturally with age, but then so does forgetfulness. If you have fond memories, it might be best to write them down now.

My first trip to Jones Valley was when I was about eight years of age, as I recall. That’s been a while now. I went with my grandparents, Guilford and Jeannette. My cousin Mike (Michael Merriman) was along and I think his sister Jeannette may also have been but I’m not sure. I do recall distinctly, and with some relief at the time, that my own sister, Janet, was not there. Continue reading →

Virginia E Schubert (Miriam Virginia Eisenlohr Schubert), 83, died peacefully on Thursday March 17th, 2006. She lived in Charleston, South Carolina for the last 16 years of her life. She and her husband, Bill, last lived at Bishop Gadsden on James Island. Virginia was born in Dallas, Texas on February 1, 1923. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She married William Schubert. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary before he died in 1999. It’s a small world. First some background. The Rev. Michael Merriman (a/k/a Fr. Mouse) is a (now retired) Episcopal priest. My cousin Mike is the eldest child of Jane Jones Merriman, a child of Guilford and Jeannette Jones. Mike lives in the Dallas area and occasionally preaches, sometimes in a church and sometimes not. Fannie Highsmith memoir

Fannie Highsmith, second of our founding eleven brothers and sisters, was a remarkable person who lived through much of our country’s turbulent history – from the Civil War to the beginning of our Space Program.
