Mason grew up primarily in Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with a year in Connecticut during grade schoool and a few years in California during his junior high and high school education. He graduated from Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School in 1982 and from the University of Michigan in 1986 with a B.A. degree in computer science.

Loren grew up in Flushing, Michigan, and after two years at the University of Michigan branch campus in Flint she came to Ann Arbor to complete her undergraduate degree in English in 1985. She and Mason were both residents of East Quadrangle on the Ann Arbor campus. They were married in May of 1986.

Mason worked in Ann Arbor for two years as a computer programmer with Northern Telecom, and then secured a transfer to that company’s office in Sunnyvale, California. After living briefly in Sunnyvale, Mason and Loren moved to San Francisco, where they continue to live today.

Mason continued his work in the computer field with H&A Computing, Stanford Research Institute, and currently Worldview, while starting his own music production company, Charnel House Productions. He now divides his time between programming web pages for Worldview and operating Charnel House, which produces music disks that are distributed and sold in Europe and Japan as well as across the United States. Mason also performs frequently both solo and with various bands, and has traveled to Europe and Japan for such music performances.

Loren is a writer whose non-fiction and science fiction work has been published in several magazines. She has edited two books, one of contemporary essays entitled Lend the Eye a Terrible Aspect, and the other a photo-essay about cemeteries entitled Death’s Garden: Relationships with Cemeteries. Both books have been published by Automatism Press, a company that Mason and Loren have founded as a publishing off-shoot of Charnel House.
